Biography
Kim Bixenstine was elected to her first four-year City Council term starting January 1, 2024. Her current term expires December 31, 2027.
Work History
Bixenstine has enjoyed a professional career as an attorney and executive leader, most recently for University Hospitals from which she retired in 2019. At University Hospitals, she served as Chief Compliance Officer from 2015 to 2019, and as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel in charge of litigation and risk management from 2003 to 2015. Prior to joining UH, she was Vice President and Chief Litigation Counsel for TRW Inc. and a partner with Jones Day. Bixenstine continues to work part-time as a professional mediator and arbitrator.
Volunteer Activities
Bixenstine has volunteered extensively, in Shaker and beyond. Most recently, she served on the Shaker Heights Development Corporation Board for eleven years, and for four years as a citizen member of the Shaker Heights Administrative Committee. She also serves as President of Great Lakes Theater's Board and as Leader-in Residence for Health Law & Policy for Cleveland State University College of Law.
Education
Bixenstine graduated from Middlebury College where she majored in political science and French and earned her law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
Personal Life
Bixenstine and her husband, Barton, have lived in Shaker Heights for more than 40 years. Their sons, Paul and Nathan, are graduates of Shaker Heights High School.
