The City of Shaker Heights is excited to host our Annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade on Monday, May 25, 2026!
The parade will kick off near City Hall at Lee Road and Van Aken Boulevard, travel east along Van Aken (in the westbound lane), and finish at The Van Aken District.
We welcome Shaker Heights groups, schools, organizations, businesses, and public officials within the Shaker School tax district to join us. Whether you’re marching, bringing a float, or participating in another way, advance registration (deadline May 7th) is required to ensure a safe and well-organized event. For safety and logistical reasons, the City reserves the right to refuse participation by anyone or any group that has not registered in advance.
The Recreation Department will contact you to provide details about your group’s lineup placement and where and when to report on parade morning.
For any questions, contact Alexis Abraham at (216) 491-2595 or at alexis.abraham@shakerheightsoh.gov.
Registration deadline is May 7th.
Participants in the Parade are encouraged to ride in a vehicle but may also walk, ride in a vehicle, or ride a bicycle, skateboard, roller skates, rollerblades or wagon. Animals are permitted as long as they are on a leash or in a container such that they are under the control of a person able to maintain control throughout the Parade.
If bringing vehicles, please indicate approximate numbers.
(Examples: Marching Band, Live Performance by a Musician, Loudspeaker Playing Recorded Music)
Volunteer servicemen and women in uniform are needed to carry flags from their branch of service.
Use this space to provide any additional information that you think would be helpful for us to know.
● Participants may carry signs or other items, such as balloons. Signs may be attached to vehicles. Signs may not be commercial in content, except to provide the name and information about a business actually participating in the Parade. The City reserves the right to limit the number or size of items being carried in order to ensure that the parade moves along efficiently and at a proper speed, and to prohibit signs that are profane, obscene or otherwise represent a threat to public order and safety.
● No candy will be thrown by parade participants riding in vehicles or walking next to a vehicle in the street. Participants who want to give out candy should walk along the side of the street where they can hand candy to bystanders. The candy should be kept with the parade participant to avoid reaching into a moving vehicle to get candy. All candy is required to be individually wrapped.
● The City reserves the right to determine the order of participants, and to restrict or limit activity in the Parade in order to ensure that the Parade moves along at a reasonable speed, without delaying other participants or causing the Parade to lengthen in time (to prevent delays in the re-opening of roads and intersections.)
● No distribution of fliers, literature, or other items to spectators along the route, or gathering of signatures, while actually participating in the Parade. The only items that may be given to spectators are candies or small toys that can be handed to the spectators, without causing spectators to run into the street. No suckers or lollipops, or other candy on a stick is permitted for safety reasons.
