Reminder: Modified trash collection schedule for week of January 26

Due to the extreme cold, the City has modified its trash collection schedule for this week: Monday’s route will be picked up on Wednesday; Tuesday’s on Thursday; Wednesday's & part of Thursday’s on Friday; and the balance of Thursday’s route plus Friday’s route will be collected Saturday. Residents whose regular route is Thursday should place their trash out by Friday morning. Thank you for your understanding as crews strive to keep Shaker clean and safe!

Larger recycling bins now allowed

Need a bigger bin for your recyclables? Shaker's Public Works Department has announced that residents may purchase and use recycling bins of up to 18 gallons in capacity. These should display the recycling icon. Be sure to follow recycling guidelines.

Road salt shortage

Northeast Ohio is experiencing a road salt shortage, which is impacting Shaker Heights. To conserve salt, our crews are only applying salt on major roads, hills and secondary intersections. Please use caution on neighborhood streets. 

2026 Preservation Awards nominations open

Shaker Heights Landmark Commission is now seeking nominations for the 2026 Preservation Awards program through April 30. Exterior projects on any Shaker building completed after March 2024 are eligible.

New lower gas aggregation rate

Participants in the City’s natural gas aggregation program will see a rate decrease to $4.64 per MCF for the period April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2028. Eligible households will receive an opt-out letter in mid-February. Residents who want to remain in the program should do nothing. Residents who want to leave the program should follow the steps in the letter.
