Shaker Heights continues to experience a road salt shortage due to delayed deliveries by Cargill, the state-contracted supplier for Cuyahoga County. This shortage is impacting cities across NEO. Public Works anticipates a delivery from Cargill early next week.
Please note these changes to our salting operations as we continue to conserve road salt.
Salt prioritization: Crews will use limited salt on main roadways, secondary intersections, hills and other trouble spots .
Neighborhood side streets: Crews will plow these streets but they may not be salted. Crews are intentionally leaving a layer of snow on side streets as this is safer than plowing to the asphalt, which can result in a layer of ice. Please use extra caution when driving on side streets.
Cargill has informed the City it will provide limited deliveries next week. However, until the supply chain issues have fully resolved, the City will continue to conserve road salt as described above. Thank you.
