Warrensville West Cemetery Gravestone Restoration Workshop

Are you fascinated with history and historic preservation? Does geology or genealogy interest you? Want to roll up your sleeves and learn a new skill? As part of the Warrensville West Cemetery Historic Preservation Plan
, a partnership with the City of Shaker Heights, Shaker Historical Society, and Shaker Heights Public Library, experts will be training community volunteers in the skills needed to help preserve the cemetery’s gravestones. Join us for an engaging, hands-on workshop where you will learn:
- Cemetery and monument safety
- The geology of monument stone
- Monument styles
- Monument photography
- Stone cleaning
- Stone resetting
Participation in this workshop is limited and registration is required. All participants will be required to sign a waiver upon arrival.

This workshop is part of the Historic Preservation Master Plan for Warrensville West Cemetery, which will identify existing resources and create a framework to preserve, protect, and maintain the burial ground's historical, archaeological, architectural, and cultural value, will increase the sites' attractiveness, and will assure that maintenance and security are properly guided. The Historic Preservation Master Plan for the cemetery will provide a roadmap to preserve one of Cuyahoga County's oldest burial sites and protect the remains of the people interred there.
