The city councils of Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights will host a joint public meeting with representatives of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) who will provide background information on conditions at Lower Shaker Lake dam on Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 12:00-1:30pm. The meeting will be live-streamed and recorded, with links to the live feed and recording to be available at in the Agenda Center on the Shaker Heights website.
The two councils will hear a presentation on dam safety by Keith Banachowski of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Banachowski, project manager with the Dam Safety Program in ODNR’s Division of Water, will provide an overview of how ODNR classifies dams; the condition of the Lower Lake dam; and the findings, recommendations, and requirements that came out of the dam’s most recent safety inspection.
Members of both councils will have an opportunity to ask questions. Residents will be able to submit comments as well as questions, and the cities will create FAQ pages on their websites to address resident questions submitted.
“A number of residents have asked technical questions about the status of the dam at Lower Lake. This public meeting will provide detailed information about dam conditions,” said Shaker Heights Mayor David E. Weiss. “I consider this an important part of the due diligence we have committed to undertake before making any recommendation about the future of the Lower Lake and the dam,”
“This joint meeting was scheduled after administration members from the two cities determined that information from ODNR would be beneficial for public officials and the public to hear,” said Cleveland Heights Interim Mayor Tony Cuda.
