The Shaker Heights Police Department invites you to join your neighbors for National Night Out, a fun, engaging, and family-friendly opportunity to learn from the experts about safety in your home and community. Climb aboard a SWAT vehicle, police cruiser, or fire engine. Say hello to our furry K9 officers. Enjoy music, food, and entertainment and maybe grab a selfie with the first responders who keep us safe!

When: Tuesday, August 5, 6-8 pm
 Where: The Van Aken District

National Night Out is celebrated the first Tuesday of August in cities across the United States as a way to build community among neighbors and safety services. Below find some of the learning opportunities and  fun planned for Shaker Heights' National Night Out. See you there!

  • Enjoy food, games, live music by Quenton Rubin Band, and other entertainment
  • Meet the first responders who keep us safe - our police officers (including all three K9 officers), firefighters/paramedics, and staff from First CALL and Cuyahoga Valley Dispatch Center
  • Check out SHPD’s new Community Resource Center in the Van Aken District
  • Pick up a free bike helmet (while supplies last)
  • Learn about home, bike, fire and water safety courtesy of our Police, Fire and Recreation departments
  • Climb aboard police and fire vehicles, like police cruisers, fire engine, ambulance, and bearcat
  • Connect with volunteer safety organizations like the Citizens Police Academy and the Community Emergency Response Team
  • Watch demonstrations of our police drones
  • Try drunk driving Mario Kart and see why you should never drink and drive
  • Put out the fire activity
  • Pick up a child safety ID kit
  • ... and more! 

Note: The rain date for this event is Saturday, August 9, 11 am-3:30 pm.

Parking

We encourage guests to walk, ride bikes, or take the Rapid to this community event. Parking at The Van Aken District is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the parking structure and surface lot are full, guests can find free parking along the Van Aken Boulevard median, in Shaker Plaza, and at Thornton Park.
