Registration is now open for the 2025 Summer Youth Police Academy sponsored by the Shaker Heights Police Department. For teens ages 14-18, the program meets for five consecutive days, June 23-27, from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm at the Police Department, 3355 Lee Road.

Building on the tremendous success of the 2024 program, the 2025 Summer Youth Police Academy will feature:

  • Hands-on experiences including simulations of real-world policing events
  • Exposure to many different components of policing
  • Opportunities to build skills in teamwork, leadership, communication, problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Crucial conversations and relationship building between youth and officers

“This is a great opportunity for teens to learn how rewarding police work can be, and to build relationships with law enforcement officers through honest conversations,” said Shaker Heights Police Chief Wayne Hudson. “We had a very successful session last year and we’re looking forward to welcoming the 2025 group.”

Shaker Heights police officers conduct the daily classes that include lectures; role-plays; and demonstrations in the areas of law, traffic stops, and de-escalation tactics. There will also be an open-environment forum to have meaningful discussions about youth/police issues and a field trip.

The program is free, each participant receives a uniform shirt, and daily lunch is provided. Register here.
