The City will start the Van Aken District Pedestrian Improvement Project the week of June 10. The project is located in the lower parking lot area between Shaker Plaza and the GCRTA busway, at the northwest corner of the busway and Tuttle Road, and will improve sidewalk connections on the west side of Tuttle between Meade Road and Chagrin Boulevard (see map). In addition to installing new pavement, sidewalks and curbs, the City will be creating a new public plaza that will include benches, pavers, trees and public art (see renderings).
The project is anticipated to be completed in mid-October 2024.
Please note the following traffic changes during the project:
- Phase 1: Tuttle Road will be restricted to northbound traffic only from the GCRTA station north to Meade Road. Throughout this phase, pedestrian traffic and access to the GCRTA station and the Van Aken District surface parking lot will be maintained.
- Phase 2: Bi-directional traffic will be maintained on Tuttle Road. Pedestrian traffic and access to the GCRTA station and the Van Aken District surface parking lot will be maintained. However, minor delays should be expected as work progresses.
For public safety, the work site will have signs, barricades and warning lights in place. Please follow the traffic patterns they establish.
