Modernizing a Historic City
Now in its second century, the City of Shaker Heights retains much of its original character and charm including stunning early 20th century residential and institutional architecture, lush parklands, and the original street grid planned around walkability and easy access to light rail. Just as residents strive to care for and modernize their historic homes, it is incumbent on the City to modernize its facilities and infrastructure, much of which date back to the City's earliest days. In addition, technological advances are enabling the modernization of operations and processes.
Learn more about how our thoughtful and careful approach to the modernization of this City honors its historic roots while positioning it to thrive in the next 100 years and beyond. (For current construction activity, visit Construction Zone.)
