Emergency Communications

In an emergency, the City will use all communication channels to inform residents. This includes email (sign up for the Shaker Heights City News list) and City social media accounts (see below). Emergency alerts are also posted at the top of the City's website and sent through the County's ReadyNotify alerts system (see below). Please also make sure your mobile phone is able to receive Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). Local, state and federal agencies use the WEA system to send locations-based alerts directly to mobile devices. 

ReadyNotify

Sign up for ReadyNotify, Cuyahoga County’s mass notification system, to receive emergency alerts from the County, including for severe weather (e.g. tornado warnings). The City also uses this system to send certain community alerts via text, email, and/or recorded voicemail including emergency alerts, trash delays, major road closures and construction updates impacting major roadways. Be sure to choose the type(s) of notification you want to receive and choose Shaker Heights under Additional Notifications to receive community text alerts. The mobile app will also show alerts based on your location. If you prefer to register by phone, call 216-443-6700, Monday-Friday, between 9am and 5pm.
